Hailing from Hiram, OH, Bridget Franek attended Crestwood H.S. (in neighboring Mantua) prior to Penn State University, where she earned a degree in Kinesiology. While competing for the Nittany Lions, Bridget was a 10-time All-American, earned Big Ten Freshman of the Year honors in 2007, and took home an NCAA Outdoor Championship in 2010. Since leaving Happy Valley and joining Oregon Track Club, Bridget is a two-time USA Championsips runner-up, and represented Team USA at the 2012 Olympics in London, making the finals in the steeplechase. Having retired from full-time elite competition after the 2016 Olympic Trials, Bridget formerly trained with Team Run Eugene, and is now an Assistant Track and Cross Country Coach at the University of Akron.
Off the track, Bridget loves trying new things and exploring new places, which she can often find through her passion for camping and the outdoors. Steadfast in her conviction, Bridget walks by faith and does everything in the name of the Lord Jesus. Looking to enhance her experience as a professional athlete, she has taken her love of learning to the classroom, receiving her MBA in Sports Marketing at the University of Oregon's Warsaw School of Business.
